What the world needs more of is little french bakeries that delivers world class paistries to the masses. That is what you find at Gourmandise the Bakery. I decided to take my mother here for her birthday. She had heard great things about this place and we wanted to give it a try.

Utah isn’t really known for its food scene, but that is slowly changing thanks to Gourmandise. Originally started over 30 years ago with their downtown location, they recently branched out to beautiful Draper, UT. The location of the Draper store is a bit of a pain to get to but I would say worth the hassle.

The first impressions of Gourmandise are that they have done an excellent job with the overall feel of the building. When you walk in, you can see the goods on display. Their piece de resistance is the Kouign Amannn (Queen Ah-mawn, yes I had to google that pronunciation). Served several different ways, this caramelized layered pastry (like a croissant) is the perfect combination of sweet and savory.

In addition to having a wonderful paistry selection, they have a great Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch menu (I was here in the morning and that is all I saw) . They also have a dinner menu that I will have to check out next time. With so many choices, it was hard to find out exactly what I wanted. The omlettes, the french toast creations, the sandwiches. I eventually settled on the Classic Rueben sandwich.

The one thing that I wish was better was the service. There were some issues with me not getting my food with the rest of the table (waited 10 minutes for my food to arrive after my table had and having to remind the server of one of the paistries we had ordered. Just a mild annoyance, nothing that should be a reflection of the restaurant as a whole.

Mother had the Brioche French Toast, my beautiful bride had the blueberry scone.

Each one was amazing. After our meal we were able to sit and admire the atmosphere and thank our lucky stars that the food scene in Utah is changing for the better.

Thank you Gourmandise, we will be back.
